The Power of Pivot Doors

Pivot doors are aesthetically stunning and contemporary making them popular on new projects and remodels. The knock on them is they lack a good seal when closed however this does not need to be the case.

The Nuts and Bolts of Pivot Doors

Pivot doors rotate on a central hinge, offering a unique opening mechanism that sets them apart from traditional swing or sliding doors. Due to the offset hinge location, very large doors can be created and supported.

Pivot doors require a larger opening to provide a good egress. The pivot is typically placed 7”-8” away from the edge of the door and jamb. This will reduce the width of the entry by 7”-8” + the width of the door. We offer pivot doors for openings 48” or larger. A 48” wide pivot door, depending on the door brand results in a 36” wide egress.

Their operation is smooth and effortless in large part due to the pivot location and the hinge design. The hinges can provide controlled door movement such as damper control, speed control, self closing, door hold, and 360 degree rotation. FritzJurgens hinges, widely considered the best available pivot door hinges are available on several brands of pivot doors we offer.

Pivot doors, like traditional swing doors can be made single or double such as french pivot doors.
